Hey hey, gay Bombay

Man it feels good to be back in Hong Kong. Went to Mumbai for an adventurous week last week, and it was a real reminder how good we have it in Hong Kong. There are 13 billion people (and counting) in India, and yet not enough to have a decent gay bar (or even coffee shop would do) in one of the biggest metropolitan centres, Mumbai.

I did get a chance to go to 'gay night' at Voo Doo Bar. Not as happening as the reviews would have it. In fact, there was a real sense of desperation in the air. Even more than you would likely find at Propaganda on a Sat night.

My impression is we should have been at the JW Marriot. Apparently, go where the hip people go, and you will find the gays. I guess that makes sense, but it is somehow counter intuitive to look for them in a hotel.

At the very least, I got to do things like ride the train (crazy) and walked nearly everywhere.

While it wasn't exactly a gay getaway, Mumbai is pretty gay friendly.

When you visit, I highly recommend visiting the Taj Hotel and the surrounding area. Lot's of neat colonial architecture. A couple of days will probably do it for most people, and a week will probably be too long.

While not 'gay', Leopold's Cafe (near Taj Hotel) has a lot of our kin, and an international mix of punters as well as food. Skip the fish and chips... trust me.
