New to Hong Kong, just arrived from the States in January. Came out late in life (I'm 49), was married but am now divorced. So, I'm settling into a new life, want to make some friends, have fun and explore the social scene in Hong Kong which is very different than New York. I went to Club 97 on Friday night at 8:30 and it was empty. Where do people go and how can I meet other professional gay men.

Ah, so... for two years we have been hearing from various friends who have had to move because of greedy landlords raising their rents to outrageous heights. Well, our contract for our little flat on Mac Donnell Road is up in April, and the new owners are nearly as greedy as the ones we have heard our pals about.

They only want a 35% increase, where we have heard tales of HK slum lords asking 200%. Whatever... it's their property.

As an 80’s baby, I never really knew what it was like to live in the hippy era; what the revolution was all about; why the Beatles was definitive of their generation; and what profundity was hidden in their songs. Thanks to the wonderful brain of Julie Taymor, the same brain that brought us “Frida” and “The Lion King”, I now understand a little better.

Hello from Califonia/Nevada!

I know this has nothing to do with Hong Kong, but Kevin and I are taking a vacation, skiing at Lake Tahoe for the week, and we are staying at a Bed and Breakfast that is just SO lovely I have to mention it, recommend it, to anyone who has the opportunity to come here.

It's run by a very friendly couple, Gerry and Kevin, who go the extra mile to make you feel at home. They built the place from scratch, and you can tell they have really put a lot of heart into it.

In the two years I have been in Hong Kong, I have watched the gay community change a great deal.

With just a few gay bars and events when I got here, to Floatilla, and the opening of several new bars, Hong Kong's gay scene had a tremendous growth spurt.

We have in the last 6 months or so had a bit of a shrinkage. Gmagazine is no longer with us. Bliss closed down a while back. And the tremendously popular Meilanfang is not open anymore. Someone recently told me Rice bar is closing too! (Is that true Johnny?)

We're stopping over in HK to break the journey and to see a teensy weensy bit of Asia - but we'll be tired and broke.

Does anyone know of reasonable accomodation in terms of quality, price and gay friendliness?

Would appreciate any advice!
